How is your professional career? What did you learn/study and what did you do before you started working at DE-VAU-GE?

Before I started at DE-VAU-GE, I worked for a number of different companies in controlling in Hamburg in order to gain the broadest possible knowledge and wealth of experience with regard to working methods and processes. I completed my business administration studies at the University of Applied Sciences Northeast Lower Saxony in our beautiful city of Lüneburg with a focus on controlling and balance sheets. A balance to my affinity for numbers is my passion for rhetoric and my interest in developing people. During my studies, I taught rhetoric and mathematics tutorials.

What is your best or most exciting experience at DE-VAU-GE that you remember to this day?

This question is difficult to answer because this family business keeps bringing new challenges with its modern attitude. A day that I will never forget was the day when we created an animated film for training as part of a trainee project. It showed how attached the trainees are to the company. I was very excited and impressed by this. In addition to the daily work, the pride is particularly fulfilling, because I feel when our trainees have successfully passed their exams. These moments are special, because then you can see how these people have matured in the course of their training and have developed into strong personalities. I am grateful to be able to accompany and support you in this phase of your life. Another very emotional project was the organization of a company Christmas market, where all the trainees enthusiastically inspired the employees with a lot of love through Christmas baking and crafting small raffle gifts, thus contributing to an increase in the sense of community.

Why should young people start their training at DE-VAU-GE? What advice would you give to future trainees?

In addition to the wide range of operational departments, DE-VAU-GE offers individual support and support from me and the great field trainers in the individual departments. With us, not only the practice is explained, no, our trainees are part of it and part of this company. They are given qualified tasks, which they often complete independently after a short period of training, and at the same time have the backing of the trainers, who are always on hand with advice and action. We offer structure, development and competent training. I try to challenge and encourage my trainees with fun and confidence and I wish that they never lose the fun of learning, trying things out and developing further.

What is the training like in your area? What do the trainees learn from you?

The aim of our training is to demonstrate the practical implementation of what you have learned in vocational school. We want to train our trainees to become all-rounders who, after their training, will have the largest possible pool of skills and abilities in the various areas. In addition to imparting knowledge, DE-VAU-GE also focuses on personal development. You will learn methods to do well in everyday work. They act in teams and strengthen their social skills. You learn to assess yourself, to ask for feedback, to deal with criticism and to be able to continue to develop yourself. We strengthen the strengths and smooth the weaknesses of our trainees and experience how they mature into full-fledged employees.

What criteria do you use to select trainees? What is particularly important to you and what interests and skills should you have for this apprenticeship?

The most important thing is the interest in the training offer and the willingness to work for the training. Of course, a certain basic education is required, such as logical thinking skills, a certain affinity for numbers and a customer-friendly demeanor. However, only with the necessary effort and commitment can the trainees meet the high demands of training at school and in the company. That sounds very difficult and exhausting and it is. On the other hand, it is very satisfying to be able to work independently, to get in touch with international customers and suppliers, to be involved in projects or even to lead them and at the end of the training, if everything fits, to be asked if you are interested to hold a corresponding position in the company. That, I think, is more than worth it. We see our high acceptance rate as confirmation of our intensive and successful training.

How would former trainees answer the question of what you liked best during your training? What do you think?

I think it’s the connecting element that our trainees appreciate so much about the training. We are a tight-knit community that is there for each other and finds solutions together. To this end, I promote joint, cross-year working groups within the trainees and integration into the departments within the company. Apprentices there are gladly instructed by trainers and friendships are often formed. I always have an open ear and try to help my trainees. Together we try to work out their strengths and support them where they need it. I think they feel that they are in good hands with me and the training team during and often afterwards.
